Most clients come to me with one or two particular or pressing difficulties. It is usual that in working through those issues, other issues are addressed. Therapy can help clients reflect deeper into aspects of their personalities, behaviours or relationship patterns that they did not expect to encounter at the outset. For this reason, it is encouraged to start any therapy with an open-mind.
If you are curious and interested in the process, I invite you to contact me so that we can arrange a telephone conversation about whether the counselling I offer is right for you.
Initial Consultation
Following a conversation on the telephone, we may arrange an initial consultation where your concerns as a couple or an individual can be explored. In this first session you will get a very good sense of how I work and if it feels right for you. I will ask you questions about your relationship, about your respective families and about what you are hoping to get out of counselling. I initiate each therapeutic relationship by actively listening to and understanding the client and their needs. Feeling supported and having the chance to get important thoughts and feelings out in a constructive and well structured environment can bring about positive change very quickly.
For individual therapy:
One or two 75 minute sessions is recommended.
For couples counselling:
One, two or three 75 minute sessions may be recommended, depending on your circumstances.
N.B. Second and third initial consultations are often recommended to allow more time to discuss and reflect on your concerns.
On-Going Sessions:
If we agree to work together, 50 minute sessions would then commence at a mutually agreed day and time, ideally on a weekly basis, for as long as is helpful. Attending weekly sessions can be difficult in practice and I am happy to offer a certain level of flexibility to clients who have changing schedules. I often work with busy individuals who travel and I am happy to alternate between face-to-face and online sessions. You and I will review the progress at distinct stages to help determine the goals and duration of the work together.
